What to do in Samos / Samos?

Samos is full of ruins and artefacts waiting to be discovered. These include the Polycrates, the Ancient Theatre, the Roman Baths and the Eupalinos Tunnel, one of the greatest engineering marvels of all time. And finally, the Temple of Hera and the surrounding sanctuary, one of the largest temples in Greece in ancient times. Hera is said to have been born here.

Take a tour of this village, the main harbour town of Samos, built on a hillside overlooking the sea. Narrow streets, elegant and unique two-storey houses with tiled roofs will give you a glimpse of life before the 20th century. Some with elegant stone staircases, others with interesting door carvings or covered balconies unique to Anatolia. But when you descend to the quay, you will suddenly be transported back to the present day. Kasaba, kendisine adını veren derin körfezin çevresinde uzanır.

Hangisine gideceğinize karar veremeyecek ve en sevdiğiniz plajı bulmaya çalışacaksınız. Organised beaches or hidden, untouched beaches? Endless beaches or intimate coves? Crowded and sophisticated or secluded bring-your-own picnics? Sand or pebbles? Beaches of all kinds line the island’s shores. On the north coast, you can start with the popular Kokkari and the quieter neighbouring beaches (Lemonaki, Tsamadou, Tsambou) stretching all the way to Agios Konstantinos.

Around Karlovasi you can find Potami, a big, beautiful beach with several bars and restaurants. In Vathy, everyone flocks to Psili Ammos (‘fine sand’) and the huge sandy beach of Mykali. The south coast offers you Kambou, Votsalakia (‘small pebble’) and the marvellous Chrysi Ammos (‘golden sand’). Anchor to one or try them all.
