Santorini

Santorini, this volcanic island has a power that traps the emotions: a summer holiday dream

Santorini oozes glamour. A volcano embraced by the Aegean, this island phenomenon in the Cycladic Islands offers a legendary experience to its visitors. Santorini, also known as Thera in Greek, is an island immortalised by poets and painters for its famous light, colourful cliffs and picturesque sunsets. All the senses are exaggerated on this island, a product of its many contrasts: black earth against whitewashed houses clinging to the cliffs, or wild volcanic sculptures against elegant Cycladic lines. Welcome to the Aegean, the most beautiful islands in the world and the most famous destination in Greece. Welcome to Santorini!

What to do in Santorini?

Red and black rocks form a wild landscape around the crater on the small island of Nea Kameni in the centre of the caldera. From the top of the 2.5 year old volcano you can experience an incredible view of the caldera. More than 9,500 years ago, the ancient city of Santorini, the ancient city of Atlantis, was flooded.

If you don’t have a boat, you can easily rent one and even join a day cruise in Ahinio, Gialos or Ammoudi for a tour around the caldera. Discover churches hidden in caves and old staircases used for mining excavations along the cliffs. On the small island of Palia Kameni, if you dare, take a dip in the thermal waters formed by volcanic hot springs.

Santorini is one of Greece’s most luxurious destinations. Take a dip in one of the endless pools that flirt with the edges of the rocks, with the Aegean in all its splendour. Relax on a sunbed with a refreshing cocktail in hand. In your apartment, enjoy a massage and soak in your jacuzzi. Candle-lit terraces glow as the sun disappears behind the volcano. An intimate dinner for two paired with a fine wine from world-famous volcanic wineries and views of the caldera. Holidays in Santorini’s luxury hotels and restaurants will make your dreams come true.

Akrotiri is the prehistoric city lying under a bioclimatic shelter. Walk over wooden bridges and you will encounter one of the most important and well-preserved civilisations of the Mediterranean, covered in the ashes of the great volcanic eruption of 1600 BC, and visit the Thera Prehistoric Museum in Fira to admire its famous murals, including Spring, Monkeys and African. A world frozen in time awaits you.

Santorini’s cuisine boasts exceptional ingredients thanks to the food-rich volcanic soil. The island’s specialities include the world-famous cherry tomatoes, fava beans (split pea pods), geberotu and aubergines. Santorini’s chefs are constantly experimenting with local products, combining traditional recipes with modern gastronomy, making Santorini the best culinary destination in the Aegean.
