What to do in Symi / Sömbeki?
In Ano (above) Sömbeki, more than 500 steps take you from Gialo to Horio. Once, this was the only way to get from one town to another. Now, if you happen to be on your way, imagine the old days when chic girls in crinoline skirts and men in long jackets strolled along. Here is Kali Strata: houses and boutiques in the most beautiful and affluent part of the city. At the top, an oasis, an open-air café awaits you. From here, watch how the setting sun illuminates Gialos in its splendour.
You have arrived in Horio (i.e. the village). Here the locals will show you all the places you need to visit: Spetsaria, an ancient pharmacy community with glass vessels and architectural details from 1884. The impressive Hatziagapitou-Hatzioanou mansion. The Farmaki mansion, home to archaeological and folk museums. Stroll through Kastro with its cobbled streets and take a look at the Aegean.
